Love right
"Why do you love me?" She asked me."I don't have a reason; I just love you.""How is it that you can love me without a reason?" She insisted
"Well you see, if I needed a reason to love you, the day that 'reason' is removed from your life then what will I have to love?"
John 13:34
And now I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another.
Have you known love? Do you know how to love? Have you been loved? Do you have love within you?
We didn't initiate love. God is the initiator of love. We are to receive the great love that our father has shown us and in turn show others the same love. Love is so precious. Whatever is precious has to be valued. For us to value love, we must then love with the same measure of standard that God has loved us.
1 Corinthians 13:4
Love is patient and kind; it is not jealous or conceited or proud; love is not ill-mannered or selfish or irritable; love does not keep a record of wrongs; love is not happy with evil, but is happy with the truth. Love never gives up; and it's faith, hope and patience never fail.
The verse above states how one should love. That is how God has loved us since the beginning of time. He has always been patient with us. He forgives and forgets and He surely doesn't delight in evil. From this verse we get to see the standard which love holds. So you should be keen to search within your heart to see if you have measured up to the standard of love that God has called us to.
Since love is God initiated, it means that without the Holy Spirit in our lives then it is impossible to love. When we accept Jesus Christ as the Lord and the savior, we are given a gift; the free gift of the Holy Spirit.
When the Holy Spirit comes into our lives, then he helps us to bear fruit. Fruit that lasts.
Galatians 5:22-23
But the Spirit produces love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, humility and self-control. There is no law against such things as these.
Love is the first fruit of the Holy Spirit. When we receive the Holy Spirit, we are led to live a life full of love. God is love. Since it's His Spirit that lives in us, then we are certainly going to lead a life full of love.
Ephesians 3:17
And I pray that Christ will make home in your hearts through faith. I pray that you may have your roots and foundations in love.
Romans 8:39
There's nothing in all creation that will ever be able to separate us from the love of God which is ours through Christ Jesus our Lord.
God showed us his love: unconditional love, when he gave His son Jesus to die on the cross. For Christ died for us when we were still sinners and now because of his death, we have now been washed of our sins and set free. His love is undeserving for if God were to love us for a measure of what we ourselves have done, then there would not be any hope for us.
It is through God's love that we get to experience His mercy, patience, faithfulness and hope.
So then, let each one of us love one another, for love is the greatest commandment and since we love our Lord Jesus Christ, then we will keep his commandment.
